Effect of spacing on the growth and yield of two varieties of Green Gram (Phaseolus aureus)

A randomized complete block design with four replications was used in a spacing trial to test the effect of three spacing treatments on growth and yield of two varieties of Green Gram Phaseolus aureus Ivau 21 and TVR. Significant differences (P = 0.05) were established between spacing treatments for growth and yield characters - positive correlation for number of flowers per plant at end of flowering, percentage and number of pod set per plant, mean number of branches per plant, and seed yield per plant. This confirms that the plant can perform well in the Ghanaian environment. A population density of 74,074 plants per hectare is recommended under low rainfall conditions
