The effectiveness of local vegetable fats for controlling insects infestation in two legume crops, bambara groundnuts and cowpeas, is assessed. The fats include palm kernel, coconut, groundnut and palm oils, and shea butter, added in two treatments at 3 and 5 ml fat/kg legume, and 5 and 8 ml fat/kg legume. The effectiveness was assessed after 60 days and 90 days for each treatment. Shea butter and palm oil were more effective in insect infestation control, shea butter being superior. Viscosity of the fat is the determining factor in the effectiveness for infestation control
