Effect of transplanting date on percentage of marketable heads and some other characters in "Balady" cultivar of cabbage

The local cultivar of cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata L.) socalled Balady was transplanted in three dates, i.e., normal, "moderate late" and late in each of two seasons under Assiut conditions. The combined average for percent of marketable heads to the total number of plants was lower in the late date (61.34 %) than both of the first (81.76 %) and the second (77.95 %). The number of early heads relative to the total number of heads was lower in the first date (17.12 %) than both of the second (28.52 %) and the late date (37.99 %). The combined analysis of variance between different dates was carried out. The three dates did not significantly differ from each other in the weight of non-wrapper leaves, while net head weight, gross weight, early net head weight and total dry matter content in the edible part in the late date were significantly lower than both of the first and second dates
