[Economic analysis of the procution and marketing costs of the most important vegetable crops grown in the Jordan Ghors]

Samples of 160 farmers from the Jordan Ghors were selected and the farmers were interviewed by the researcher. Econometric models were used to estimate the production cost functions for the vegetable crops grown in the Jordan Ghors, as follows: 1. to determine the optimum production and maximized net income for each vegetable crop and compare these sizes with the actual sizes. 2. to estimate the marketing cost functions for the vegetable crops in the Jordan Ghors and the production and marketing costs functions under different planting and irrigation methods; 3. economic prices for the vegetable crops were estimated and compared with the actual prices. Supply-price elasticity for each crop was determined. The experiment included estimation of optimum production of cucumber in the Northern and Middle Ghors using protected methods of agriculture and drip irrigation as net income maximization, economic price and supply-price elasticity were determined (optimum production was about 10.13 tons/dunum; max net income - 11.19 tons/dunum; economic price - 93 Fils/kg and supply-price elasticity was about 0.23) and compared to the same constants of cucumber optimum production in the Southern Ghors. Similar estimations followed by comparison were calculated for tomato (using furrow irrigation on the second location); hot pepper, using furrow irrigation in both locations; eggplant under drip irrigation, and green beans, onions and potato all under furrow irrigation. In addition, optimum production and maximized net income for vegetable crops in case the producer bears marketing costs were calculated
