Input marketing, distribution and usage aspects in the Kenyan co-operative coffee sub-sector
1989
Onchoke, S.N. | Nyoro, J.K.
Cooperative unions and societies are the major agents for distributing purchasable farm inputs to the smallholder coffee farmers in Kenya. An annual input supply and price monitor research project was started in 1982 to do periodic monitoring and evaluation of the marketing efficiency of the farm inputs in the cooperative coffee sub-sector in the country. This paper presents the results of a survey conducted in 1988 by the named project. It shows that a major input distribution network has been established through the cooperative system with 11 main and 60 minor companies supplying their inputs. Also shows the results of the farmers input usage across districts in relation to their respective mature coffee areas
