"Namdaettangkong" is developed from a cross between Virginia Bunch Improved and Suwon no. 30 by Crops Experiment Station, Rural Development Administration in 1988. The variety is similar to the leading variety "Yeonghottangkong" released in 1980 in some agronomic characteristics except lesser branches, higher shelling percentage with sound kernel and heavier weight of one hundred kernels. The variety was high in oil content and Oleic and Linoleic acid too, while low in protein content, Palmitic and stearic acid composition compared to "Yeonghottangkong". The variety showed more resistant to Phoma arachidicola compared to "Yeonghottangkong" in field condition and lodging. The yield potential of "Namdaettangkong" was about 13 % higher than that of "Yeonghottangkong" in the regional yield trials of 11 locations during 1986-1988. The variety can be adaptable to cultivate in southern part of Korea
