Electrophoretic separation of 7 isoenzymes (LAP, ME, MDH, Prx, ACP, IDH, Est) in 54 lupin lines of the Old World (section of albi, angustifoli, lutei) and in 3 lines of L. mutabilis from the national collection of the genus Lupinus was performed. The material covered local populations, ecotypes, mutants and cultivated varieties. The suitability of electrophoresis in chemotaxonomy and characterization of gene reserves and cultivated varieties was estimated. The range of enzymatic variation was very different - to 11 phenotypes of Prx, multibanded in both cathodical and anodical parts. Not all enzymatic systems, however, are suitable for a description of cultivated varieties. Identification should be started from polymorphic enzymes, and in the case of the lack differentiation - enzymes with a smaller polymorphism should be estimated. Sometimes seldom occuring marker phenotypes of monomorphic systems may be useful
