Effect of the UV irradiation of baby-chicks on growth rate and thyroid and thymus size

An experiment on newly hatched chicks radiated with the UV dose of 140 W per 1 minute was carried out. The growth rate to 8 weeks of life and the size of thyroid and thymus at 6 and 8 weeks of life was observed. Nearly significant differences between the 6-week body weight of irradiated chicks of both sexes and control chicks were found. Higher thyroid weight in 6-week-old male chicks of experimental group than in control ones was stated
