A field experiment was carried out at Bangladesh Agricultural University Farm, Mymensingh during boro season of 1987-88 to evaluate azolla and urea application on soil fertility in the rice field. The pH of the soil remained more or less unaffected under various treatments. Organic matter content of the soil was increased by 7.6, 10.3, 10.8 and 1-6% with Azolla dual culture, Azolla once, twice, thrice incorporation and urea application over control, respectively. Total nitrogen and available phosphorus increased significantly due to Azolla manuring and urea application but Azolla manuring produced better result than urea application. Among the treatments, the Azolla thrice incorporation in the soil can be regarded as the superior treatment in respect of improving soil fertility. The results also indicated that exchangeable K and available S were not significantly influenced under other Azolla treatments.
