Soil samples from 15 widely occurring and intensively cultivated soil series of Bangladesh were examined for their potassium status. Ammonium acetate extractable K was found to be in medium range (0.16-0.30 me%) in Burichong, Ajmiriganj and Baliadangi soils and the K values were below critical level (K .15 m.e.%) in rest of the soils. Non-exchangeable K determined by 1.4N H2SO4 ranged from 0.13 to 0.46 me% and from 0.23 to 0.3.24 m.e.% when determined by 1N HNO3 (boiling for 10 minutes) method. For all soil series, K extracting power of the extractants were in the decreasing order of 1N HNO3 1.4N H2SO4 1N NH4OAc 1:10 water (1.03 0.230.140.01 me%). Exchangeable K (IN NH4OAc) showed a significant correlation with 1.4N H2SO4 extractable K (4
