Designers of farm tractors try to minimize the output loss of transmission. The user has the greater output power at disposal during the exploitation of a tractor combination set, the smaller is the output loss with respect to the effective output of the engine. In the present paper the results of transmission tests performed on a stand are given for Z 8211 and Z 12211 farm tractors. The total output loss in a Z 12211 traktor makes 6 per cent of the rated power Pn at the temperature of PP 80 transmission medium 90 degrees C. The total output loss is a function of the running-in time of transmission, amount of transmission medium, temperature of transmission medium, input speed, engaged gear of individual gear sets and other characteristics. The percent division of output loss in individual gear sets was determined. The highest output loss was found out in the basic transmission, followed by the hydraulic circuit and rear axle tube.
