Cows and heifers learned to open 2 types of feeders. The 1st feeder opened by lifting the lid, the 2nd one by pressing the lever at side wall of feeder. 17 tests (10 minutes each) were realized. The approach of animals to the solution of the task was different. Heifers were more active, they had more attempts, but they were perfunctory, less consistent. Cows manipulated with feeders more patiently and achieved more success with less attempts. From the total number of attempts to open one of the two feeders 59.5 percent were succesful. Heifers were successful in 42 percent of cases. Heifers and cows more often opened the lever feeder, although it required more effort. Except for frequency of mooing there was no statisticaly significant difference in learning process between cows and heifers.
