The radiation field in a forest stand undergoes time and spatial changes; specific radiation regime is created in this way. In June-August 1987 and in June 1988 the radiation regime was investigated in an oak-hornbeam stand situated at the Bab research area near Nitra. Light conditions were determined in individual crown layers. The highest amount of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) was intercepted in the upper crown layer, where the maximum photosynthetic activity is concentrated. An analysis of the values of the photosynthetically active radiation penetrating into individual parts of the canopy is important for determining the distribution of photosynthetic potential in the canopy of oak-hornbeam stand and for selecting a suitable phytotechnique.
