[Effect of two energy levels from corn-soy or wheat-soy diets on pullet growth and laying performance]

Performance of pullets and hens fed corn-soy or wheat-soy diets with two energy levels were studied during the experimental period. Four kinds of feeds specified as control and treatment, 1, 2 and 3 were used to feed the pullet and laying hens from day-old to 66 age. There was no any significant difference in the average weight of chicks from four treatments up to 16 weeks of age. But the average weight of the chick which were fed corn-soy diet with high level of energy (control) was significantly (p0.05) heavier than those from treatments 1, 2 and 3. However, the average feed intake of chicks from four treatments was not significantly different up to 20 weeks of age. But the total metabolic energy and crude protein intake of chicks from control and treatment 2 were significantly (p0.01) higher than those of treatments 1 and 3 during the first 20 weeks of chicks age. Birds fed the wheat-soy diets (treatments 2 and 3) reached sexual maturity 11 days later than those fed the corn-soy diets (control and treatments 1). Thus the energy and protein levels which were used in this experiment did not have any significant effect on birds maturity. There were no any significant differences in the total percentage of egg production, egg weight, feed intake, feed efficiency and percentage of hen mortality between the control and treatments during the laying period
