This study looks at one group of pesticide users, kiwifruit growers in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, and looks at how increasing public awareness of pesticide use will impact on their business. Local public opinion on pesticide use is surveyed, current pesticide application practices are studied and the scope for reduced pesticide use is evaluated. The focus of the report is on insecticides. Fungicides used in kiwifruit production are of low toxicity, and the use of herbicides, fungicides and soil fungicides are not essential
