An experiment on calves progeny of Black-and-White dams and Black-and-White, Jersey, Simmental and Holstein-Friesian sires, born in the autumn-winter or spring-summer seasons was carried out. Two rearing systems: nursed by cow or bucket fed were compared. Any significant effect of genotype, rearing system and the season of birth on the haemoglobin level, haematocrit and erythrocyte and leucocyte count in calves was stated. The higher erythrocyte content during the first 21 days of life in calves born in spring-summer season than in those born in autumn-winter season was observed
