Apples of the cultivars investigated were stored at 1 degree C and relative humidity of 90-92 per cent. The results of 3-year experiment showed the effect of the stem builder on the fruit flesh firmness, natural losses, and resistance to fungal diseases, and to core flush. Apples from trees grown on the hibernal cultivar were distinguished by greater firmness than Antonovka. In the case of Golden Delicious apples after storage the differences approximated to 1 pound. Total losses were significantly greater for fruits from trees on hibernal stem-builder and also initial symptoms of core flush were 2.5-11.3 per cent greater. The rooting during storage was reduced by 1-4.6 per cent in apples from trees grown on the hibernal stem-builder
