Effect of season on some reproductive traits of sows

The examinations were carried out in four large pig farms in 6-7 succeeding years, comprising data on 74,456 farrowings and 133,455 matings of 52,148 sows. The number of piglets born alive in a litter amounted in primiparous sows 8.28 and in multiparous sows 9.15 heads, and the conception rate 57 and 59 percent, respectively. The season of year proved to be really important source of variation for each of the examined features, and the significant differences were found in the influence of season between primiparous and multiparous sows
