1982
Lande, H.L. van de (Agricultural Experiment Station, Paramaribo (Suriname). Div. of Mycology)
In the middle of the main dry season of 1980, the Marienberg Sugar Estate reported an outbreak of an unknown leafspot disease in sugarcane. The main variety B41.227, comprising 63 % of the planted area at the Estate was found to be heavily attacked in some fields and leafspots were found in 5-week old ratoon crops. Regular inspections in several B41.227 fields in the following year, revealed only a partial recovery from the disease. A short description of the fungus and its field symptoms are given.
