Critical levels of nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) in sweet corn sap

Nitrate nitrogen in sap of sweet corn receiving different nitrogen fertilizer rates was periodically measured by using Merckoguant test strips. The results were analyzed together with total plant dry weight in order to determine the critical levels of nitrate nitrogen during the early stages of growth. It was concluded that the critical levels of nitrate nitrogen at 4 fully expanded leaf stage were about 140-220 ppm, and at 6-8 fully expanded leaf stages were about 350-400 ppm.
