Corn Breedling Project, Kasetsart University has been researched and developed a new corn variety, Suwan 3 or KS4 (Kasetsart Synthetic 4). Suwan 3 composed of 20 and 30 selected S1 lines of KC1 (Kasetsart Coposite 1) and Suwan 1 (S)C8, respectively. Formation, improvement and development of Suwan 3 were conducted in dry season 1983 until 1988 at Farm Suwan. Kasetsart University recommended Suwan 3 to farmers in 1987 and this new variety was verified by the Department of Agriculture in the same year. From the results of varietal tests in Corn Belt areas tested at 109 experiments over 5 years (1984-1988), they showed that Suwan 3 gave higher yield (approximately 10 %) and better agronomic characters including adaptation in various environments than Suwan 1, a standard variety.
