Pest control in bananas: a case of the cost/benefit challenge in pesticide use

The pesticides used for control of various pests on bananas and the toxicity of the major banana pesticides are listed. Some of the measurable benefits from pesticide use are given and steps are described for reducing the risk of pollution in the importation and use of pesticides. Laws and regulations pertaining to the use of pesticides are briefly discussed.
