Study of the floristic characteristics of bee pastures from the aspect of a search for new sources of melliferous flora

The present work gives the results of investigations into bee pastures in northeast Serbia aimed at more efficient keeping of honeybees (A. nekkuffuca). Eight meadows and grassland communities were investigated producing records of 158 melliferous plants. The most common were plants from the families Fabaceae (42), Lamiaceae (28), and Compositae (18). Other families were less abundant. The demonstrated biological, floristic and ecological specificities indicates a differing relevance for bee pasture among the investigated phytocenoses. Based on the analysis of each plant community, its relevance for bee pasture was evaluated. Thus, in this region of Serbia vegetation in sandy soils and some upland xerothermic meadows were the most relevant.
