In order to determine the effect of various contents of calcium in feed (depending on the age of laying hen) upon egg shell quality, contents of calcium and phosphorus in blood plasma and femur as well as upon the content of plasma alkaline phosphatase, experiments were conducted with 120 laying hen of the Isabrown line lasting from 22nd to the 74th week of age. The control group of hens was fed with the same quantity of calcium (3.5%) during the whole laying period whereas the experimental groups were fed with 2.5% (2nd group), 3.0% (3rd group), 3.5% (4th group) and 4.0% (5th group) of calcium in the first stage and in each following stage the content of calcium increased by 0.5%.
