The work on the selection of superior ecotypes of Pozegaca plum, carried out over the 1981-1988 period, indicated the possibility of finding out the types with diverse characters. Some 23 types were singled out and studied. Ten types, which proved as the best, were studied in more detail: 1/81,2/81,3/81,4/81,5/81,6/81,7/81,8/81,9/72 and 11/82. The following conclusion may be inferred from the three-year study of these types "in situ" and grafted on the rootstock St. Julien: The best types of Pozegaca transfer the character of largesized fruits to their vegetative progeny. In this respect the types 1/81, 3/81 and 11/82 proved to be the best. Types 3/81, 6/81 and 4/81 are distinguished by high yields. Type 2/81 flowers 7-10 days after the standard Pozegaca, whereas types 5/81 and 11/82 have a somewhat earlier flowering time. The adverse effect of smaller fruit size in the beginning of the bearing period has not been shown on the rootstock St. Julien. St. Julien, used as Pozegaca rootstock, promotes early coming into bearing and high and regular yields but it is sensitive to drought.
