[Alternative sources of protein in poultry nutrition: 1. The effect of synthetic methionine supplementation of peas in the nutrition of chicks during fattening]

This is a study of the possibility of enriching mixtures containing peas instead of soybean meal with synthetic methionine in chick diets. Chicks fed with the control mixture based on soybean meal achieved the best production results. The replacement of 50% and 75% of the protein of soybean meal with peas caused slower growth of both male and female chicks and lower feed conversion. The addition of synthetic methionine to the mixture with 50% pea protein caused an improvement in feed conversion in the first period of fattening compared to the group on a diet containing the same ingredients with the exception of the additional methionine. The addition of methionine to a mixture with 75% pea protein improved the growth of male chicks only, as well as the feed conversion, especially in the first period of fattening compared to the group fed with the same mixture without the addition of methionine.
