This is a study on green mass yields of 6 Yugoslav lucerne varieties, according to the cuts and yearly, as well as their chemical composition. The following varieties were studied: Backa Mirna. Backa ZMS I was the control variety in this study. Differences between the yields of green mass, dry matter, crude protein and oat feed units of the studied varieties, were not statistically significant. The variety Backa ZMS I had the smallest amount of crude protein in the green mass. The content of dry matter, crude protein and oat feed units had a tendency towards increasing from the first to the third cut. The varieties Backa ZMS I and K-1 share first place with regard to the yield of green mass and hay. The variety Mirna ranked last in that respect, although it gave the highest yields of dry matter, crude protein and oat feed units.
