Results are presented on the presence of presistent organochlours insecticides (alfa-HCH, beta-HCH, lindane, aldrin, Dieldrin, heptachlor and heptachlor-epoxide, o,p-DDE, p,p-DDE, o.p-DDT and p,p-DDT) in surface water of Vojvodina rivers (Danube, Tisa, Begej, Tamis and Sava, Yugoslavia), in the 1980-1988 period. A decline of the persistent insecticide amounts was registered but nevertheless systematic control and monitoring of these compounds are necessary because of their persistence and bioconcentration ability as well as because of the residue accumulation in irrigated crops. Monitoring of other persistent pesticides is recommended as well.
