Nutrition characteristics as the element of conservation, breeding and hunting planning of the ungulate game with the emphasis on the red deer (Cervus elaphus L.)
1989
Adamic, M. (Institut za gozdno in lesno gospodarstvo, Ljubljana (Yugoslavia))
The research work deals with nutrition characteristics of the red deer and the roe deer in different parts of Slovenia (Yugoslavia). The nutrition researchis based on the analysis of intestine contents samples taken from the killed game and on the results of phytosociological research in the habitats of the red deer. It is evident from the research work that food selection is primarily conditioned by the environmental situation. A generalitic feeding manner enables the red deer to specialize on the most easily accessible food source which is at the same time that of highest qualiti in the environment. The knowledge about nutrition characteristics is an important starting point in the ungulate game population planning and especially in deciding on the most appropriate measures to be carried out in habitats.
