A comparative on the absorption and degradation of Lindane and Phorate in plants [maize and potato]

Investigations were carried out on soil application of 0.6 and 2 kg per ha of Lindane and Phorate respectively, rates of degradation, absorption and accumulation of these insecticides in corn and potato. A liner dependence of insecticide concentrations change in plants was estimated in the function of time and respective equations for lindane and total phorate, phorate sulphoxide and phorate sulphone content were determined. Degradation rates k and time needed to degrade 50% of the insecticide (DT50) were taken as quantitative measures of insecticide persistence in plants. For Lindane DT50 was 30 and 43.7 days, i.e. k was 0,023 and 0.016 day-1 in potato and cron respectively. The values of the kinetic parameters for total Phorate, Phorate Sulphoxide and Phorate Sulphone content were independent of the plant species and the formulation type being 37-38 days for DT50, i.e. k 0.018-0.019 day-1. In field trials a concentration equilibrium for both insecticides in soil and plants takes place 55 days following application due to insecticide partition in the systems soil-plant.
