A study has been carried out to investigate and monitor the environmental status of the Matha Bhanga river recipient of various wastes from the Carew and Company distillery factory. Analytical study of several samples of effluents collected at the point of outfalls of waste water disposal at various locations indicate that the mixed effluent of sugar mill and distillery is highly polluting near the factory area, and the effect of pollution is practically eliminated at about two kilometers away from the outfalls.
