Studies were made on the insect pests reaction to various genotypes of lentil and lablab bean including control measure. It was found in the field investigation that seven insect pests occurred on lentil two of which viz, aphid and thrips were the most abundant. Significantly different population levels of these pests indicated degrees of susceptibility of genotypes of early maturity, high yielding and large seeded lentil. The large seeded genotypes appeared to be less susceptible to aphid compared to other two traits of lentil. The incidence of aphid, thrips and pod borer were quite marked in the bean field. Several genotypes recorded free from aphid or low population and might be related to resistant or moderately resistant to this pest. Four-fifth of the genotypes had pod borer damage below 10% including some without borer infestation. The number of eggs deposited by pulse beetle on the bean seeds varied in the genotypes in the same pattern as seed damage, and half the genotypes recorded seed damage below 18%. Zolon, Nogos and Sevin were almost equally toxic to thrips and dose 0.025% Al might be effective against this pest.
