The effect of clover-grass silage made with acrylic acid on the selected metabolism parameters and weight gains in fattened bulls

The effects of feeding of clover-grass silage on the selected parameters of metabolism in blood (plasma), in the content of residues of acrylic acid in liver, kidney and meat and on the live weight gains were studied in bulls (n=6, starting live weight 334 kg) during fattening within 99 days. The clover-grass silage was made with 3 l of acrylic acid per 1 tonne of ensiled matter. In bulls of test group there was stated the tendency to high, statistically insignificant methaemoglobin levels in blood (plasma), to changes in the values of acidobasic metabolism (increased pH, CO2, BE and SB and decreased BB) and to lower levels of glucose and ketonic bodies, as compared with the control bulls (n=6, starting live weight 331, which were fed with silage made with 4 l of formic acid per 1 tonne of silage matter. The activity of alkaline phosphatase was statistically higher and the cholesterol level was statistically lower. In the samples of liver kidney and meat, there were not found the residues of acrylic acid, detected by the method of gas chromatography (sensitivity of the method 1.8 mg of acrylic acid in 1 kg of sample). The daily weight gains in bulls of the test group was 0.897 kg per head and day during the studied period: as compared with the control group, the gain was higher by 0.009 kg, on an averge.
