Harnessing traditional food technology for development

Attention is drawn to some of the demographic factors that should be taken into consideration in the development of technology for food production and processing. Factors of differences in age-sex, education, household or family size calls for different technological approaches especially in the area of improving the nutritional status of the various sub-groups. Technological advancement can lead to reduction of under-employment rates or may result in un-employment when production is no longer labour-intensive but rather both capital and 'machine' intensive. The evaluation also includes trends in Ghanaian population, historical growth pattern, growth factors, age-sex composition, spatial distribution(urban-rural), education/literacy characteristics, the effects of population growth on food demand, technological change for food production and processing, and nutrition requirements
