The pesticidal properties of the extracts of five local plants were compared with extracts of neem, Azadirachta indica, using pest insects Sitophilus zeamais, Callosobruchus maculatus, Zonocerus variegatus and Pseudocanthotermes militaris as test organisms. Extracts of the Physic nut (Jatropha curcas) provide similar level of protection to cowpea, maize, cassava foliage, and Pycnanthus angolensis wood blocks, as that of neem
