1983
Charamara, S. | Anyfantakis, E. (Agricultural College of Athens, Athens (Greece))
Cow milk samples were taken from the area of Attica and their total viable counts, methylene blue reduction time and mastitis status were determined. From the results taken it was concluded that: a) There is negative correlation between the methylene blue reduction time and the total viable counts of milk. b) The microbial quality of the milk from animals milked by hands is superior to that milked by machines. c) The mastitis status of the herds milked by machines is inferior to that milked by hands. d) According to the Greek Code of Quality of Milk, 21% of the samples examined were found to be of A class, 34% of B, and 45% of C. e) The methylene blue reduction time was found to be independent on the number of the somatic cell counts.
