In the course of examinations the fungi occurring on alfalfa, 45 foot, 11 stalk and 42 leaf samples were processed, and species from 25 fungus genera were identified. The rich mycoflora was observed on the foot of plants infected with the stem nematode Ditylenchus dipsaci. The most frequent was Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn, but Rh. crocorum and Sclerotinia trifoliorum Erikas also occurred. The largest number of saprophytes was identified from this habitat. On the leaves, Stemphylium botryosum, Pseudopeziza medicaginis and Uromyces striatus were most frequent. Among the other species found, Deptosphaerulina briosiana and Leveillula taurica were observed for the first time in Hungary on alfalfa. On stalk samples exhibiting spottedness, Alternaria alternata and Phoma medicaginis were the most frequent, but Colletotrichum trifolii was also observed.
