Role of origin protection in grape and wine management

At present there is a better chance of introducing a national origin protection system than there has been previously. The compulsory force of the market is becoming even greater, as there is a desire to become an integral part of the western European market. Regional and national associations which could form the basis of autonomic organisations for the origin protection areas have already been set up. There exist export-oriented wine-growing regions with satisfactory integrational activities, which could be the first to undertake the organization of origin protection. The differentiation of domestic and export markets also necessitates the initiation of origin protection. The introduction of the system could have an effect on virtually every major field of the grape and wine sector, special mention should be made of regional, vertical and international integration, the standard of production and the sector co-ordination system.
