The inoculation and liming techniques to soybean on red yellow podsolic soil

The effect of bacterial inoculation and liming techniques on soybean grown on red yellow podsolic soil was studied in glass house. Soil samples were collected from Jasinga, Bogor, West Java. Four liming techniques (i.e; broadcasting, local placement, capsules shaped and without liming) and four inoculation treatments (i.e; without inoculant, inoculant with US1, JB4, and FA3 strains respectively) were tested with factorial randomized block design with four replications. Data depicted from this experiment showed, that soybean grown on soil without liming and inoculation resulted in small numbers of nodules. The application of inoculant significantly increased nodule numbers and nitrogenase activity of the nodules. It was found, that liming and the interaction effect between inoculation and liming significantly increased the number of root nodules, N in plants and weight of plant top. Liming increased nodule numbers, specific - ARA and plant N content. The significant effect of the three strains used (US1, JB4, and FA3) was found only in broadcasted application of lime material. While local placement and capsule treatment did not increase the dry weight of plant top, and result not significant with result as found without liming treatment. (author)
