Agricultural resurgence in the United States Virgin Islands
1984
De Albuquerque, K. (College of Charleston, Charleston South Carolina (USA). Dept. of Sociology and Anthropology) | McElory, J.
The author asserts that there has been a noticeable renaissance in agriculture of the Virgin Islands in the past decade. These trends sharply reverse the pattern of encroachment from the advent of tourism and manufacturing, and parallel decreases in competitive food imports. The paper concludes that stagnation in the modern sector, unprecedented insular inflation, and active agricultural policy have in great part been responsible for the recent agricultural resurgence in the Virgin Islands.
