Mechanization of sugar cane production for animal feed

Sugar cane is being used directly or indirectly for animal feed on a large scale in this hemisphere. This paper discusses some pertinent questions with regard to the use and mechanization of cane for animal feed. Obviously the cane must be produced as cheaply as possible, and the most promising cost-reduction methods are listed for the key operations leading to production and harvest. Harvesting options are discussed in particular detail. It is concluded that the mechanization of animal cane is not only possible, but nearly every required component already exists within the sugar industries of this Region.
