Results of inoculation of Cercospora sorghi on resistant (Acc. 898) and susceptible (UPL Sg-5) sorghum genotypes suggested that C. sorghi undergoes a dormancy period before it germinates. This fungus exhibited high percent germination on both genotypes 6 hours and 8 hours after inoculation using in vitro and in vivo inoculation techniques, respectively. More lateral germ tubes, branching and elongation were observed in susceptible than in resistant genotype. Branching of these lateral germ tubes were equal to the number of infecting hyphae and consequently to the number of lesion. There was no significant difference between the R and S genotype on the inhibitory effect of toxin extracted from C. sorghi on root elongation.
