Economic impact assessment of psyllid infestation on ipil-ipil leafmeal-producing farms and ipil-ipil leafmeal-using farms in Cebu [Philippines]
1990
Rivera, M.C.N.
Income from leafmeal was drastically reduced but income from fuelwood and propping materials increased significantly after the infestation. Psyllid infestation significantly affected the economic condition of the farmers and their spending patterns. The infestation also prompted the ipil-ipil farmers to plan alternative courses of action for their ipil-ipil plantations. The leafmeal end-users incurred additional expenses in the purchase of feed ingredients other than ipil-ipil. The volume of ipil-ipil leafmeal used in their mills decreased after the infestation. Psyllid infestation significantly affected the ipil-ipil leafmeal treefarmers and leafmeal end-users in the study sites. However, ipil-ipil is planted throughout the country and there are a number of industries dependent on its end-products.
