Zoobenthic communities in an artificially aerated lake Mutek [artificial destratification]. 1. Seasonal changes of the numbers and biomass
1989
Kuklinska, B. (Akademia Rolniczo-Techniczna, Olsztyn (Poland). Katedra Zoologii)
No typical summer minimum was observed in shallow profundal zone; this minimum occurred only in deeper parts. Average numbers and biomass of bottom fauna increased gradually in consecutive years of aeration. Periodically, an untypical winter increase of the zoobenthos biomass was observed in deeper areas. Seasonal variations in the sublittoral zone decreased considerably in the last period of lake aeration. After period drying and freezing of the littoral sediments an untypical autumn-winter peak of bottom fauna densities was observed in this zone in 1983. A discussion is presented on the effect of oxygen, thermal and food conditions as well as of fish feeding and periodic lowering of water level upon the density and biomass of lake zoobenthos
