Two trials were conducted at Ubay Stock Farm, Bohol [Philippines] from June 1989 to June 1990 to evaluate the effect of topdressed superphosphate application on the productivity of native/stylo mixed pastures grown in Ubay clay series soil. In trial 1, the effect of 4 levels of phosphorus (P) application (0, 30, 60, 90 kg P/ha) on yield, botanical and chemical composition of mixed pasture was evaluated. Total dry matter yield (DMY) was significantly (P0.01) increased with increasing P rates. This was largely attributed to the increase (P0.05). Analysis of 30-day regrowth showed that nutrient content of the individual species did not vary significantly with P levels. However, the increase in stylo composition with increasing P rates improved the nutrient quality of the mixed pastures; there being linear increase in CP values (P0.01) during the wet season and P values (P0.05) during the dry season as well as reduction (P0.05) of total cell wall (NDF) during the wet season.
