On the basis of literature data and investigation of the mosquito larvae from East Zaire it was shown that the 4. stage larvae of Culex (Culex) schwetzi Edw. had a chitinized tergal plate on the 8. abdominal segment. Therefore, the original and correct description of Cx. schwetzi larva should be regarded as being that of the larva of Culex sp. from Cameroun (Rageau and Adam, 1953), the species being new for the mosquito fauna of this country. A map is given showing the geographical distribution of Cx. schwetzi, known at present from Zaire, Liberia an Cameroun

Com base em dados bibliograficos e no estudo de larvas de mosquitos do Zaire Oriental, mostra-se que as larvas do 4. estado de Culex (Culex) schwetzi Edw. possuem uma placa tergal quitinizada no 8. segmento abdominal. Assim, a descricao da larva de Culex sp. dos Camaroes (Rageau e Adam, 1953) deve ser considerada como a descricao original e correcta da larva de Cx. schwetzi, esta especie sendo nova para a culicideofauna dos Camaroes. Apresenta-se um mapa mostrando a distribuicao geografica de Cx. schwetzi, conhecido presentemente no Zaire, Liberia e Camaroes
