The investigation of the distribution of bacterial wilt (moko) disease of plantain, banana and Heliconia bihai L. in the Cottica river basin in East Suriname from the end of 1980 till the mid 1983 is reported. Field symptoms observed, cultural, biochemical and pathogenic characteristics of Pseudomonas solaracearum isolates from infested standings are described. Problems encountered in the execution of the eradication program established after the first discovery of the disease in 1976, are discussed.
