[Study of fertility level of olive trees in north of Jordan (Irbid district)]

A study was conducted in Irbid region to evaluate soil potassium status and its effect on productivity and oil percentage in olive trees. Fields were selected in villages showing variations in their soils and annual mean rainfall. The study indicated variations among village soils in the potassium percentage. Results showed a reverse relationship between potassium content in leaves and yield, also between soil potassium and yield. This may be related to the utilization of potassium in leaves for fruit ripening. Also results showed that oil content of fruits was increased by increasing soil potassium content at depth of 20-40 cm. It was concluded that soils of low level of potassium should be fertilized with this element to improve olive trees growth, yield and oil content
