Analysis of water quality data in Klongs of various sections in Bangkok metropolis [Thailand] as water quality index
1988
Sunee Tantikul
Water quality on temperature and pH found in the klong was in the same levels as in natural water resource. The disolved oxygen content found in the klongs was very low and in some klongs nearly zero. And the high content of suspended solid in the water. Moreover the high content of ammonium compound was found in the middle and inner sections. The disolved oxygen and biochemical oxygen demand were both found so high correlated that they could be used to indicate the water quality. The content of the disolved oxygen in one respect, varied with those of the biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and phosphorus, when the content of the disolved oxygen was high, those of the others would be low and viceversa. The biochemical oxygen demand, on the other hand, could be used to indicate the contents of ammonia and phosporus, when the content of biochemical oxygen demand was high, those of ammonia and phosporus would be accordingly high. The water quality in most klongs in Bangkok Metropolis was not good enough for human use.
