1988
Aporn Pruksunthorn
During the study period at the age of 30, 33, 36, 39 and 42 months, the average value of tree characteristics were as follws: height, 9.21 m, 9.69 m, 10.01 m, 10.28 m and 10.58 m; length of clear bole, 2.52 m, 2.87 m, 2.94 m, 3.21 m and 3.56 m; crown diameter, 3.82 m, 3.94 m, 4.23 m, 4.42 m and 5.04 m respectively. Average seed production was 38,135 seeds or 2359.41 g per tree. The length, width, thickness and 1,000 seeds weight were 8.31 mm, 5.49 mm, 1.71 mm and 61.87 g respectively. Significant difference between families in all seed characteristics studied were observed. Under unimbibed condition, family variation in seed respiration was found to be highly significant. Imbibed seed has highest respiration rate when compared to the unimbibed ones. Pretreatments L. leucocephala seeds in H2SO4 for 5 minutes gave higher germination percentages than the other pretreatments.
